²² My God sent his angel,^(A) and he shut the mouths of the lions.^(B) They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight.^(C) Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, Your Majesty.”

¹⁶ And I heard a man’s voice from the Ulai^(A) calling, “Gabriel,^(B) tell this man the meaning of the vision.”^(C)

²¹ while I was still in prayer, Gabriel,^(A) the man I had seen in the earlier vision, came to me in swift flight about the time of the evening sacrifice.^(B)

⁵ I looked up^(A) and there before me was a man dressed in linen,^(B) with a belt of fine gold^(C) from Uphaz around his waist. ⁶ His body was like topaz,^(D) his face like lightning,^(E) his eyes like flaming torches,^(F) his arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze,^(G) and his voice^(H) like the sound of a multitude.

⁷ I, Daniel, was the only one who saw the vision; those who were with me did not see it,^(I) but such terror overwhelmed them that they fled and hid themselves. ⁸ So I was left alone,^(J) gazing at this great vision; I had no strength left,^(K) my face turned deathly pale^(L) and I was helpless.^{(M) 9} Then I heard him speaking, and as I listened to him, I fell into a deep sleep, my face to the ground.^(N)

¹⁰ A hand touched me^(O) and set me trembling on my hands and knees.^(P)

¹⁶ Then one who looked like a man^[a] touched my lips, and I opened my mouth and began to speak.^(A) I said to the one standing before me, “I am overcome with anguish^(B) because of the vision, my lord, and I feel very weak.

¹⁸ Again the one who looked like a man touched^(A) me and gave me strength.^(B)

⁵ Then I, Daniel, looked, and there before me stood two others, one on this bank of the river and one on the opposite bank.^{(A) 6} One of them said to the man clothed in linen,^(B) who was above the waters of the river, “How long will it be before these astonishing things are fulfilled?”^(C)

⁷ The man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, lifted his right hand^(D) and his left hand toward heaven, and I heard him swear by him who lives forever,^(E) saying, “It will be for a time, times and half a time.^[a](F) When the power of the holy people^(G) has been finally broken, all these things will be completed.^(H)”
